Q: How do I extract VAT from an amount?

Multiply the amount by the rate and divide by 100 plus the rate. For a rate of 22%: VAT = amount × 22 / 122. Example: in an amount of RUB 1,220 the tax is RUB 220, and the amount excluding VAT is RUB 1,000.

Q: How do I add VAT to an amount?

Multiply the amount excluding tax by the rate and divide by 100. For a rate of 22%: VAT = amount × 22 / 100. Example: RUB 220 is added to RUB 1,000, and the total including VAT is RUB 1,220.

Q: Which VAT rates are in force?

The standard rate is 22%. The reduced rate is 10%: it applies to goods on the Tax Code lists, for example some food and children’s goods. The 0% rate is for exports. The 5 and 7% rates are applied by taxpayers on the simplified system who are obliged to pay VAT.

Q: Why does an extra kopeck appear in the calculation?

The tax is rounded to the kopeck. If VAT is calculated separately for each line of a document, the sum of the rounded values may differ from the tax calculated on the total by one or two kopecks. The calculator works from the amount entered.
