Q: Is it mandatory to notify counterparties?

Usually the contract itself requires it: the parties undertake to report changes to their details. Until notice is given, a payment to the previous details counts as proper performance.

Q: Is a supplementary agreement needed?

If the details are written into the text of the contract and the contract does not allow them to be changed by letter — yes, a supplementary agreement is signed. If the contract allows notification, a letter is enough.

Q: How should the letter be sent?

In the way the contract recognises as official: by post, through an electronic document exchange operator, or to the e-mail address given in the contract. Keep proof of sending.

Q: What should be stated besides the bank details?

The date from which they apply and a request to use them in payment documents. It is also useful to name the previous account, so that the counterparty’s accounts department understands exactly what to replace.
